It all began with the compassion of a mother in 1995. With a travelling husband and two children away at college, the woman longed to return to motherhood. This longing turned into a small home-based daycare for children, and she felt her purpose and passion return. As her heart grew full, her house grew small for all the children. It was after the immense guilt she faced from denying a child a place in her house that she had the idea of having her own childcare center. She nurtured this dream into a reality, and in 2000, Summerlin Childcare and Learning Center was born.
Today, our licensed daycare has evolved into an established learning center, while continuing to offer reliable and affordable childcare services and becoming one of the top daycares in San Antonio. This story of compassion for childcare and passion for education was what founded Summerlin, and remains at the core of what Summerlin is today, 20 years later.
Summerlin’s mission is to provide quality early childhood care and education in an enriching and nurturing environment. Our focus is to provide an educational experience that allows each child the opportunity to develop socially, emotionally, physically and cognitively.

The Summerlin team of teachers and staff has over 100 years of combined experience and training in early childhood care and education.
Our team is at the heart of the Summerlin family. They not only meet all of the requirements set by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS), but also exceed them through additional continuing education and training resources, such as Voice for Children, ATI and TAEYC. The entire team is also SIDS, CPR and First Aid certified. The lead teachers have Child Development Associates (CDA), and all of the teachers receive regular professional development from private consultants and other trainers. They continuously strive to be better educators to better educate the children.
Diversity advantage: In addition to being experienced and highly trained, our team is also diverse. This exposure to various cultures and backgrounds allows children to learn acceptance towards all people from the very beginning. Through this knowledge, we are proud to instill one of the most important values in today’s times - empathy, through our diversity.
